Trench stand
TRENCH STAND

A sports field for shooting with shooting five shooting areas in one line at a distance of 1.5 m from the machines for throwing plates. In the trench are 5 groups of 3 cars in each group. One series – 25 targets. In the shooting at T. S. there is an exercise double-trip (double-ladder): each time from the trench are fed on two targets (that is, 50 targets are obtained). Shooting in T. S. was part of the program of all OI since 1900, except for 1904 and 1928. The double-track (double-ladder) has been part of the Olympic program since 1996.

The advice given here is for the shooters participating in the competition.

  1. Check your clothes. Make sure that the gun settings have not changed – the center of the talus, the height, the inclination of the butt and so on. Shifting the place of the application can imperceptibly change your entire work piece and introduce inconvenience when tracking the goal. Wear the same shoes for competitions, as well as during training. Other shoes, adding or removing height, can lead to a change in your work piece and impair muscular memory. Check the shooting glasses. If you wear corrective glasses, pass an examination every year from the oculist.
  2. Before shooting for 10 seconds, imagine how you give the command to launch the target, perform the leash, while maintaining the correct aiming line, and how confidently you break the plate. Presentation – a powerful technique in all sports that helps to achieve excellence. The view prompts the mind – what kind of result do you want to get; this is the command to perform the action at the maximum of your abilities. Did you miss? Imagine a perfect shot, and you cannot miss during the next shot.
  3. Watch the plates of the previous shooters; smoothly accompany them with a glance. This activates the eye muscles and prepares them to accompany your targets. In addition, this will tell your subconscious the target’s flight line, thereby improving the execution of the shot.
  4. Pay attention to the location of the throwing machine in relation to the shooting positions. The machine should be centered when viewed from the third position. This is one of those rifle secrets, which professional arrows always pay attention, while many do not attach importance to this. This can lead to the fact that, despite the good preparation, you can commit gross errors when shooting at such a stand. Having carefully looked, you will notice that the throwing machine and shooting positions aren’t slightly aligned. The throwing machine can be to the left or to the right in relation to the shooting positions. Make changes to your rack, if you do not want the plates to fly out at strange angles and you make mistakes. If the machine is shifted to the left, move to the left so that you are standing in front of the machine. Do not raise the gun or tilt to compensate for the displacement, shift your position. Only one this advice will allow you to earn more points!
  5. Before the competition, pay attention to the stand on which you conduct training. Surprisingly, the vast majority of these stands do not always correspond to competition rules and can produce plates with a lower speed or flat plates. Preliminary warm-up on the training stand will do you a good service, just keep in mind that the stands can produce targets with different angles and other speed.
  6. Look carefully at the cars before the competition. The machine # 1 may be OK, but the # 2 machine can release targets above or below, to the left or to the right. This can happen because of incorrectly installed machines or their settings. Settings could changed, but the arrangement of machines – before the competition will not change. Be prepared for this behavior of machines. Read my books – “Secrets of shooting on a trench stand” and “Accurate shooting – the Bible arrow on a trench stand” – this will give you detailed instructions how to compensate and solve many problems arising when shooting at a booth.
  7. Be internally confident when you occupy a shooting position. If in doubt, again imagine a flying skeet. Stand straight, and hold the gun with absolute certainty. When it’s your turn to shoot, apply the gun with the feeling that you and the gun are one. It is important to have this feeling – that you are one with a gun; the gun is not just an object in your hands. You now make up one with it, and the gun cannot do anything, except the execution of your commands.
  8. To consolidate the feeling of unity with the gun it is necessary to control the density of pressing the cheek to the butt. Pressure should be felt to get a feeling of unity. However, keep in mind that with a change in the density of the pressure of the butt, the relationship of the eye and the sighting bar will change, which in turn will lead to slips – above or below the target. Therefore, pressing should be monotonous. The position of the cheek should also be monotonous – if the cheek is to the left or to the right, this will in turn lead to slips in the horizontal plane. That is, even if you think that you have accurately made the aiming, you can miss because of the varying density of pressing the cheek and its position. The monotonous application is extremely important to maintain the correct position of the eyes and the aiming bar and for stable accurate shots.
  9. Pay attention to the rhythm of shooting participants. Is it fast, slow, smooth or torn? Mentally, you must maintain your own rhythm, and keep in mind that the unstable rhythm of other participants can still make you rush. Try not to shoot around with too fast for you participants. If this is not possible, maintain your own internal rhythm. Forget everything, and start your own countdown from the moment the previous team shoots the team to launch the target. This will help you in maintaining your rhythm. The problems of too slow and torn shooting can be solved only if you know about this problem. Those who think that compliance with an even rhythm does not matter will miss! Having looked at the shooting “before the first miss,” you can see that good shooters miss,
  10. Do not focus and do not try to react negatively to distractions. Failures, misfires, noises – all this is part of the game in which you play. Your distraction will lead to a decrease in points. Learn to block distractions, treating them like normal sounds and events.
  11. Pay attention – where the arrows break the plates? If the arrows break them too fast – be careful. If they break them in strange or uneven distances – be careful. Note that the arrows can strongly affect your rhythm, if you are not focused on maintaining the internal rhythm. If you break down from the inner rhythm and begin to break the plates eventually than you are used to, then the result will be misses.
  12. Watch your breath. Take a deep, relaxed breath before giving the command to start the target. Make this a part of your work. Oxygen will give you a surge of energy and allow you to see the goal earlier and more clearly. It also helps to relax thoughts and body. Controlled breathing will help you if you feel tense.
  13. Raise an eyebrow before giving the command to start the target. If you look in the mirror, you may notice that the eyelid covers the iris of the eye. During stress, this happens even more because of muscle tension. Up to 20 percent of the world can be lost. Reducing the vision will cause the targets to be seen to be dull, to give the impression of rapidly flying, and to leave behind them “tails” like comets. All this will lead to an amazing number of misses. Open your eyes wider, then let us command. You will notice improvement in shooting and whenever you feel tension, use this advice.
  14. Control emotions. The target you are shooting at is just a target that you have broken many times before. It is not worth imagining that this target is more important than those you have already shot down. This means – do not count the targets. If you missed – learn to drop the thought of a miss, as if this miss was not. This will help you avoid the desire to adjust the shooting during the competition. Get rid of emotions and shoot like a machine, using the same perfect technique that you learned during training. Misses happen. Accept this. Too strong adjustments lead to experimentation, and even more targets will missed.
